Durable Useful Life (expected lifespan):

My 1994 Extralight developed a crack…

Every bike, including Merlin Metalworks frames have a durable useful life or an “expected lifespan” as defined and understood by the founders of Merlin. For example, a frame built in 1994 has been ridden over 30 years. This is a tremendous lifespan for a frame and very few, if any, items you will likely own in your lifetime will last this long. At a certain point however, things do wearare out. Should this be the case, Merlin Metalworks will not attempt to repair the frame.  This is where the frame has met is expected lifespan and the fatigue life of the materials has ended.  Instead, with proper proof of purchase, Merlin will offer the customer a new frame at one of two cost levels that they seem appropriate. Level one would be original purchaser’s original frame purchase price, used as a credit towards a new new frame, or Merlin’s level 2 wholesale dealer cost.

Legacy Frames:

1986 is a long time to be around. In that lifetime, Merlin Metalworks has made many different and unique models while under the facilities of a few different owners. In certain cases, Merlin has made models within those different facilities that used facility-specific tooling that simply does not exist at our shop or at all anymore. Due to the complexity or uniqueness of those processes, Merlin may not be able to replace or repair a frame regardless of warranty. For example, if you purchased a Cyrene or Cielo in 2008 or an Empire from 2014 or even a Exogrid from 2020, these models are not longer made, nor are the materials or techniques they where made with accessible or possibly even in existence anymore. Should you have one of these models, we will do our very best to repair at a reasonable cost or replace a reasonable cost as defined above. Frames that are currently known as of Jan 1, 2024 that this applies to are:

  • Any Merlin Steel frame.

  • Any Merlin carbon or carbon hybrid frame.

  • Any Merlin full suspension or “Soft Tail” made prior to 2023.

  • Any Merlin pressfit bottom bracket design.

  • Any engraved Merlin frame.

  • Any Merlin with a swaged head tube design.

  • Any Merlin branded forks, carbon, steel or titanium.
